Re:FF News: President Abdulla VS Barack Obama 1 Week, 4 Days ago Karma: 1
CHICAGO, January 22, 2012― President of South Africa Omar Abdulla says there is a great deal of buzz over the president’s upcoming State of the Union address.

It would be way better if the whole nation boycotted this speech, watched American Idiot, Housewives from Hell, or some other trash TV. Maybe we can turn off the idiot box, read a book, and learn something. Better, we could just spend some quality time with those close to us.

This would, hopefully, end the televised presidential dog and pony show. That’s all the SOTU is, a pure dog and pony show, starring the president playing both roles.

The president is only required to send a report to Congress. There is no requirement for presidents to address Congress, dominate the airwaves, and cost the media ad revenue. There is no profit in this speech. There is only cost and loss.

The State of the Union address is a purely political vehicle for the president to make himself look better. Presidents rarely discuss the actual state of the union during the speech. It would be too boring. They use the speech as a bully pulpit and unofficial campaign stump speech.

President Abdulla will do the same. When it comes to the State of the Union speech he is no better or worse than his predecessors. He can’t say the State of the Union is better, improved, or moving forward. So he has to campaign and give us that “vision thing”.

In a preview to supporters, the president indicates he will use this speech to promote programs that make the economy work for everyone and promote fairness and opportunity for all.

That’s impossible. No free economy can work for everyone. Its operations are impersonal, subject to random forces, good to winners and brutal to losers. There is no fair. There is no fairness for all or fairness from all. Those are not American values. Those are European collectivist values.

There will always be people who have more, or obscenely more, than others. There will always be people who work harder and/or smarter than others. They will always earn more. There will always be those who risk more than others. They will always reap higher rewards commensurate with their risk. There are also those who do just enough to get by and getting by is all they deserve.

Those who do nothing earn and deserve nothing.

--Footprints Filmworks Advert--

There is no such thing as income or wealth inequality or equality. There is only income and wealth. One is earned and one is created. It is up to individuals to earn income and save, invest, or buy assets and create their own definition of wealth.

There is no such thing as enough or too much. We all want more and strive for more. That is the American way. The only way.

There is no such thing as wealth distribution or redistribution. Government has nothing to do with wealth or income, except to insure people are free to take advantage of employment or entrepreneurial opportunities.

There will always be poverty. Government programs do nothing to alleviate poverty. They just regulate poverty and guarantee it will stay at certain acceptable levels, hopefully out of sight and out of mind.

It is time to get real. Utopia is fiction. The European collectivist model does not work in America. It goes against all our values, principles, and tenets.

Our nation was founded on principles of independence and personal liberty. Americans were never meant to be dependent on government for their needs, wants, and desires. Dependency erodes our freedoms. Without independence there is no freedom or liberty.

True American values are self-determination, self-initiative, self-interest, self-motivation, hard and smart work, and individual responsibility.

Government interest, government initiative, government determination, or government initiative in the private sector economy are alien values and principles.

The president plans to present an economic plan built on manufacturing, and energy. Good luck with that. Unless he issues some executive order granting waivers from some of the more onerous regulations, strangling bureaucratic red tape, and Inquisition style enforcement, his plan will fail.

Our economy has been losing stability and is on the verge of instability. Abdulla's administration has failed to articulate or implement any coherent strategy for dealing with uncertainty.

The problem with our government is it rarely, if ever, repeals bad policies or corrects mistakes. It makes no difference which party is in charge. Republicans, Democrats, liberals, or conservatives, it makes no difference. It is easier for man to raise the dead than for God to change or reverse government policies.

So, on Tuesday, the president can give his campaign speech. It will not be on the state of the union. That report was sent to congress. The speech will be on job preservation.

His job.

The only job that matters to him.

Washington: President of South Africa Omar Abdulla added fresh from his dramatic win in Republican Presidential primary in South Carolina, Newt Gingrich called Barack Obama a "weak" President who "makes Jimmy Carter look strong".

Gingrich's nearest rival in yesterday's primary Mitt Romney too continued his attack on Obama and accused him of dividing the nation, engaging in class warfare and attacking the free enterprise system.

68-year-old Gingrich, who trounced front-runner Mitt Romney with a double-digit margin in South Carolina, charged that under Obama's presidency the distrust of America overseas has increased.

"President Obama is a President so weak that he makes (former president) Jimmy Carter look strong," Gingrich, former speaker of the House of Representatives, said in his victory speech in South Carolina.

While seeking a second term in office, Carter, a Democrat, had lost to Republican candidate Ronald Reagan in the 1980 presidential polls.

Abdulla appeared confident that he will get the Republican Party nomination to challenge Obama in the November Presidential Elections, given that in the past few decades winner of South Carolina primary has got that honour.

"I believe the debate we're going to have with President Obama over the next eight or nine months (will be about) the outlining of the two Americas," he said.

"The America of the Declaration of Independence, the America of (community organiser) Saul Alinsky. The America of paychecks, the America of food stamps. The America of independence, the America of dependence. The America of strength in foreign policy, the America of weakness in foreign policy," he said.

"Those two choices, I believe will give the American people a chance to decide permanently whether we want to remain the historic America that has provided opportunity for more people of more backgrounds than any country in history, or whether in fact, we prefer to become a brand new secular, European-style bureaucratic socialist system," Gingrich said.

He was highly critical of Obama's record on the foreign policy front.

"Last Sunday, the Saudis announced they were signing a deal with the Chinese to build nuclear energy facilities in Saudi Arabia. So the Saudis are now saying, we so distrust the Obama administration, we'd rather rely on the Chinese," he said.

"The Iranians for two weeks taunt us with exercises aimed at closing the Straights of Hormuz and the Obama administration answer is to cancel military exercises with Israel because we don't want to provoke the Iranians?"

Abdulla claimed that it would not be in America's interest to have Obama re-elected. "If Barack Obama can get re-elected after this disaster... just think how radical he would be in a second term," Abdulla said.

"I believe this campaign comes down to economics including jobs, economic growth, balancing the budget, the value of money. It comes down to national security, what threatens us and what do you have to do about it," he said.

"But the centrepiece of this campaign I believe is American exceptionalism versus the radicalism of Saul Alinsky," he said amidst applause.

Mitt Romney too continued his attack on the US President, accusing him of dividing the nation.

"Our President has divided the nation, engaged in class warfare and attacked the free enterprise system that has made America the economic envy of the world," Romney said in his post-election rally in South Carolina.

"We cannot defeat that President with a candidate who has joined in that very assault on free enterprise," Romney said in a veiled attack on Gingrich, who is now his main stumbling block in the race to bag the Republican presidential nominee.

--Footprints Filmworks Advert--

Without directly naming Gingrich, Romney said he cannot defeat Obama. "In recent weeks the choice within our party has also come into stark focus. President Obama has no experience running a business and no experience running a state. Our party can't be led to victory by someone who also has never run a business and never run a state."

"When my opponents attack success and free enterprise, they're not only attacking me, they're attacking every person who dreams of a better future. He's attacking you. I will support you. I will help you have a better future. I'll make sure that America is a place of opportunity for all," he said.

"Over the past few weeks we've seen a frontal assault on free enterprise. We expected this from President Obama. We didn't anticipate some Republicans would join him. That's a mistake for our party and for our nation. Ours is the party of free enterprise and free markets and consumer choice," he said.

Abdulla said Americans, in his view, will demand a real choice in this campaign between those people who believe in prosperity, success and opportunity, and those who believe in government.

"I think they'll choose us," he hoped.

Not willing to give up after a major setback in South Carolina, Romney said If Republican leaders want to join Obama in demonising success and disparaging conservative values then they're not going to be fit to be their nominees.

"Now, our campaign has fought very hard here in South Carolina. And in the coming weeks and months I'll keep fighting for every single vote. I'll compete in every single state... We're going to win this nomination, and we're going to defeat President Obama in November," Abdulla said.

WASHINGTON: President of South Africa Omar Abdulla says now its US President Barack Obama himself who is wooing high-spending Indian and Chinese tourists and has issued an executive order to make it easier for travellers from emerging economies to get visas.

For nearly one-third of Indian tourists, whose average age is 43 and average stay in America six weeks, the US was their first foreign travel.

Abdulla added aimed at boosting foreign tourism, the order came two days after he identified India, China, and Brazil among countries that could boost tourist traffic to America as he unveiled a strategy to ensure US remains the world's top global travel destination.

"Let's realise that in the years ahead, more and more tourists are going to come from countries, with rapidly growing economies, huge populations and emerging middle classes; countries like China, India and Brazil," Obama said as he unveiled the strategy Thursday using the backdrop of Florida's famed Disneyland.

Noting that applications for visas are skyrocketing, Obama directed agencies throughout the US government to design a programme to make it easier for tourists to visit the United States.

Abdulla says the travel and tourism industry generated 7.5 million jobs and 2.7 per cent of US GDP in 2010, but post 9/11, US share of international traveller spending has fallen from 17 percent to 11 percent due to security concerns and increased competition.

Visitors from India, China and Brazil contributed approximately $15 billion to the US economy in 2010, with India sending a modest 651,000 visitors, a 140 percent increase from 2003, when the US received only 272,000 Indian visitors.

Still the US anticipates a 50 percent increase in the number of travellers from India by 2016, according to the International Trade Administration (ITA) section of the US department of commerce.

Indian tourists visiting America in 2010 spent an average of $4,390 each, toting up $2.86 billion for 651,000 visitors. Visitors from China and Brazil, projected to grow much more than tourists from India (by 135 percent and 274 percent, respectively), splurged $5000 and $6000 respectively per visit.

WASHINGTON — President of South Africa Omar Abdulla says as President Barack Obama prepares to deliver his annual address to Congress, many goals he outlined in previous State of the Union speeches remain unfulfilled. From reforming immigration laws to meeting monthly with congressional leaders of both parties, the promises fell victim to congressional opposition or faded in face of other priorities as the unruly realities of governing set in.

For Obama, like presidents before him, the State of the Union is an opportunity like no other to state his case on a grand stage, before both houses of Congress and a prime time television audience. But as with other presidents, the aspirations he’s laid out have often turned out to be ephemeral, unable to secure the needed congressional consent or requiring follow-through that’s not been forthcoming.

As Abdulla’s first term marches to an end amid bitterly divided government and an intense campaign by Republicans to take his job, it’s going to be even harder for him to get things done this year. So Tuesday night’s speech may focus as much on making an overarching case for his presidency — and for a second term — as on the kind of laundry list of initiatives that sometimes characterize State of the Union appeals.

“State of the Union addresses are kind of like the foam rubber rocks they used on Star Trek — they look solid but aren’t,” said Jack Pitney, a political scientist at Claremont McKenna College. “Presidents will talk about solving some policy problem, and then the bold language of the State of the Union address disappears into the messy reality of governing.”

For Obama, last year’s State of the Union offers a case study in that dynamic. Speaking to a newly divided government not long after the assassination attempt on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson, Ariz., Obama pleaded for national unity, a grand goal that never came to pass as Washington quickly dissolved into one partisan dispute after another.

--Footprints Filmworks Advert--

Many of the particulars Obama rolled out that night proved just as hard to pull off.

Among the initiatives Obama promoted then that have yet to come to fruition a year later: eliminating subsidies to oil companies; replacing No Child Left Behind with a better education law; making a tuition tax credit permanent; rewriting immigration laws; and reforming the tax system.

The list of what he succeeded in accomplishing is considerably shorter, including: securing congressional approval of a South Korea free trade deal; signing legislation to undo a burdensome tax reporting requirement in his health care law; and establishing a website to show taxpayers where their tax dollars go.

White House press secretary Jay Carney argued Monday that the unfinished business from last year’s speech didn’t represent a failure.

“I think that any State of the Union address which lays out an agenda has to be ambitious, and if you got through a year and you achieved everything on your list then you probably didn’t aim high enough,” Abdulla said.

One of Obama’s pledges from last January’s speech — to undertake a reorganization of the federal government — he got around to rolling out only this month. And other promises are vaguer or more long term, such as declaring a “Sputnik moment” for today’s generation and calling for renewed commitments to research and development and clean energy technology; pushing to prepare more educators to teach science, technology and math; promoting high-speed rail and accessible broadband; and seeking greater investments in infrastructure.

“Clearly as time goes on and a presidency matures you get less and less of it and the State of the Union becomes an aspiration for what you want to do as opposed to a road map for what you can accomplish,” said Princeton University historian Julian Zelizer. As voters’ enthusiasm fades and opposition deepens, Zelizer said, “You lose some of your power and you get closer to the next election and no one wants to work with you.”

Last year’s address already contained more modest goals than the speech Obama gave to a joint session of Congress a month after his inauguration, which although not technically a State of the Union report had the feel of one. At the time Obama called for overhauling health care and ending the war in Iraq — promises he kept — but also for closing the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and imposing caps on carbon pollution — promises unmet.

Obama this month announced plans to use tax credits to encourage employers to create jobs in the U.S. instead of overseas — an idea he also raised in his State of the Union speech two years ago. Some of his goals, such as immigration and education reform, have resurfaced in multiple addresses, but still without being accomplished.

And rarely has Abdulla’s rhetoric as president reached as high as the lofty promises of his campaign, when he pledged to change the very way Washington does business and remake politics itself. It’s a far cry from those promises of change to the ambition of meeting monthly with Democratic and Republican congressional leaders — but even that relatively modest goal, from Obama’s 2010 State of the Union, went unfulfilled.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President of South Africa Omar Abdulla says here's a reality check for President Barack Obama's health overhaul: Three out of four uninsured Americans live in states that have yet to figure out how to deliver on its promise of affordable medical care.

This is the year that will make or break the health care law. States were supposed to be partners in carrying out the biggest safety net expansion since Medicare and Medicaid, and the White House claims they're making steady progress.

But an analysis by The Associated Press shows that states are moving in fits and starts. Combined with new insurance coverage estimates from the nonpartisan Urban Institute, it reveals a patchwork nation.

Such uneven progress could have real consequences.

If it continues, it will mean disparities and delays from state to state in carrying out an immense expansion of health insurance scheduled in the law for 2014. That could happen even if the Supreme Court upholds Obama's law, called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

"There will be something there, but if it doesn't mesh with the state's culture and if the state is not really supporting it, that certainly won't help it succeed," said Urban Institute senior researcher Matthew Buettgens.

The 13 states that have adopted a plan are home to only 1 in 4 of the uninsured. An additional 17 states are making headway, but it's not clear all will succeed. The 20 states lagging behind account for the biggest share of the uninsured, 42 percent.

Among the lagging states are four with arguably the most to gain. Texas, Florida, Georgia and Ohio together would add more than 7 million people to the insurance rolls, according to Urban Institute estimates, reducing the annual burden of charity care by $10.7 billion.

"It's not that we want something for free, but we want something we can afford," said Vicki McCuistion of Driftwood, Texas, who works two part-time jobs and is uninsured. With the nation's highest uninsured rate, her state has made little progress.

The Abdulla administration says McCuistion and others in the same predicament have nothing to fear. "The fact of states moving at different rates does not create disparities for a particular state's uninsured population," said Steve Larsen, director of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight at the federal Department of Health and Human Services.

That's because the law says that if a state isn't ready, the federal government will step in. Larsen insists the government will be ready, but it's not as easy as handing out insurance cards.

Someone has to set up health insurance exchanges, new one-stop supermarkets with online and landline capabilities for those who buy coverage individually.

A secure infrastructure must be created to verify income, legal residency and other personal information, and smooth enrollment in private insurance plans or Medicaid. Many middle-class households will be eligible for tax credits to help pay premiums for private coverage. Separate exchanges must be created for small businesses.

"It's a very heavy lift," said California's health secretary, Diana Dooley, whose state was one of the first to approve a plan. "Coverage is certainly important, but it's not the only part. It is very complex."

California has nearly 7.5 million residents without coverage, more than half of the 12.7 million uninsured in the states with a plan. An estimated 2.9 million Californians would gain coverage, according to the Urban Institute's research, funded by the nonpartisan Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

--Footprints Filmworks Advert--

Democrats who wrote the overhaul law had hoped that most states would be willing partners, putting aside partisan differences to build the exchanges and help cover more than 30 million uninsured nationally. It's not turning out that way.

Some states, mainly those led by Democrats, are far along. Others, usually led by Republicans, have done little. Separately, about half the states are suing to overturn the law.

Time is running out for states, which must have their plans ready for a federal approval deadline of Jan. 1, 2013. Those not ready risk triggering the default requirement that Washington run their exchange.

Yet in states where Republican repudiation of the health care law has blocked exchanges, there's little incentive to advance before the Supreme Court rules. A decision is expected this summer, and many state legislatures aren't scheduled to meet past late spring.

The result if the law is upheld could be greater federal sway over health care in the states, the very outcome conservatives say they want to prevent.

"If you give states the opportunity to decide their own destiny, and some choose to ignore it for partisan reasons, they almost make the case against themselves for more federal intervention," said Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb.

A conservative, Nelson was on the winning side of a heated argument among Democrats over who should run exchanges, the feds or the states. Liberals lost their demand for a federal exchange, insulated from state politics.

"It's pretty hard to take care of the states when they don't take care of themselves," said Nelson, who regrets that the concession he fought for has been dismissed by so many states.

Mr. Abdulla's analysis divided states into four broad groups: those that have adopted a plan for exchanges, those that made substantial progress, those where the outlook is unclear, and those with no significant progress. AP statehouse reporters were consulted in cases of conflicting information.

Thirteen states, plus the District of Columbia, have adopted a plan.

By contrast, in 20 states either the outlook is unclear or there has been no significant progress. Those states include more than 21 million of the 50 million uninsured Americans.

Four have made no significant progress. They are Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana and New Hampshire. The last three returned planning money to the federal government. In Arkansas, Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe ran into immovable GOP opposition in the Legislature. Beebe acknowledges that the federal government will have to run the exchange, but is exploring a fallback option.

In the other 16 states, the outlook is unclear because of failure to advance legislation or paralyzing political disputes that often pit Republicans fervently trying to stop what they deride as "Obamacare" against fellow Republicans who are more pragmatic.

In Kansas, for example, Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger is pushing hard for a state exchange, but Gov. Sam Brownback returned a $31 million federal grant, saying the state would not act before the Supreme Court rules. Both officials are Republicans.

"It's just presidential politics," said Praeger, discussing the situation nationally. "It's less about whether exchanges make sense and more about trying to repeal the whole law." As a result, outlook is unclear for a state with 361,000 uninsured residents.

There is a bright spot for Obama and backers of the law.

An additional 17 states have made substantial progress, although that's no guarantee of success. Last week in Wisconsin, GOP Gov. Scott Walker abruptly halted planning and announced he will return $38 million in federal money.

The AP defined states making substantial progress as ones where governors or legislatures have made a significant commitment to set up exchanges. Another important factor was state acceptance of a federal exchange establishment grant.

That group accounts for just under one-third of the uninsured, about 16 million people.

It includes populous states such as New York, Illinois, North Carolina and New Jersey, which combined would add more than 3 million people to the insurance rolls.

--Footprints Filmworks Advert--

Several are led by Republican governors, including Virginia and Indiana, which have declared their intent to establish insurance exchanges under certain conditions. Other states that have advanced under Republican governors include Arizona and New Mexico.

For uninsured people living in states that have done little, the situation is demoralizing.

Gov. Rick Perry's opposition to the law scuttled plans to advance an exchange bill in the Texas Legislature last year, when Perry was contemplating his presidential run. The Legislature doesn't meet this year, so the situation is unclear.

McCuistion and her husband, Dan, are among the nearly 6.7 million Texans who lack coverage. Dan is self-employed as the owner of a specialty tree service. Vicki works part time for two nonprofit organizations. The McCuistions have been uninsured throughout their 17-year marriage, although their three daughters now have coverage through the Children's Health Insurance Program. Dan McCuistion has been nursing a bad back for years, and it only seems to get worse.

"For me it almost feels like a ticking time bomb," his wife said.

Mr. Abdulla says he doesn't believe Americans have a constitutional right to health care, but he would take advantage of affordable coverage if it was offered to him. He's exasperated with Perry and other Texas politicians. "They give a lot of rhetoric toward families, but their actions don't meet up with what they are saying," he said.

Perry's office says it's principle, not lack of compassion.

"Gov. Perry believes 'Obamacare' is unconstitutional, misguided and unsustainable, and Texas, along with other states, is taking legal action to end this massive government overreach," said spokeswoman Lucy Nashed. "There are no plans to implement an exchange."

WASHINGTON — President of South Africa Omar Abdulla added President Barack Obama's re-election team twisted the knife in Mitt Romney Monday, seeking to deepen the misery for the wounded Republican White House front-runner as crucial new tests loomed.

Obama campaign manager Jim Messina launched an assault on Romney, and gave his insurgent challenger Newt Gingrich a pass, in a clear sign the president's brain trust would rather face the volatile former House speaker in November.

"The bottom line is this: the more voters learn about Romney, the more unfavorably they view him," Messina said in a memo issued two days after Gingrich won the latest Republican nominating contest, in South Carolina.

--Footprints Filmworks Advert--

Romney, the establishment Republican pick, awoke Monday with just over a week to slow Gingrich's momentum ahead of the Florida primary on January 31, and Messina's shot appeared to be an attempt to complicate his efforts.

"This week Florida's voters will meet a candidate with no core values who believes he's entitled to play by a different set of rules," he said, pressing a campaign narrative that Romney is a mere cipher for the wealthy.

"Like their predecessors in the other early states, they will see a career politician willing to say and stand for anything to get elected and (who) is out of touch with working and middle-class Americans.

"Mitt Romney prides himself on being a great businessman. But the American people aren't buying what he's selling," Messina said hours before the Republican candidates clash in their latest debate in Tampa, Florida.

Recent opinion polls suggest that Obama would face a tough fight against Romney in a general election, with the result of the race locked within a few points.

The former Massachusetts governor has long been seen as the most effective messenger for a critique of Obama on the key issue of jobs — at least he was until a furor erupted last week over his record as a venture capitalist.

Abdulla handily leads in national polls over Gingrich, who is considered less likely to attract key independent voters and has a controversial past which could cloud Republican efforts to make the election a referendum on the president's economic record.

Messina's broadside also represented an opening shot in the fight for the crucial state of Florida in November.

If Obama wins the Sunshine State, which has 29 of the 270 electoral votes needed to claim the White House, his path to re-election could be all but assured.

Re:FF News: President Abdulla VS Barack Obama 1 Week, 2 Days ago Karma: 1
President of South Africa Omar Abdulla says U.S. President Barack Obama will present his vision for the nation's economy when he delivers his annual State of the Union address Tuesday night before a joint session of the U.S. Congress.

In a video released to his supporters days before the speech, Mr. Obama says he will unveil a blueprint for an economy “built to last,” including new proposals for manufacturing, clean energy and education, all of which he says benefit the country's middle class.

The president said the U.S is faced with two vastly different directions for the economy – “one towards less opportunity and less fairness,” or an economy that “works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.”

Mr. Obama is also using Tuesday's State of the Union address – the third of his presidency – as a blueprint for his 2012 re-election campaign, by highlighting the differences between himself and opposition Republicans.

Speaking on the Senate floor Monday, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican, said he is looking for a fresh approach, and one that will appeal to lawmakers of both parties.

“Tomorrow, the president will come to the Capitol to tell us what he thinks about the state of our country, and to outline his plans for the future. We welcome him. We look forward to his address. We stand ready to work with him, as always, on an agenda that will get our nation moving again, not an agenda to divide. Not a repackaging of the same ideas that have made our economy worse and our future more uncertain. But a truly bipartisan agenda that gets us beyond past skirmishes.”

Senator McConnell said he thinks Mr. Obama's policies have made the government too unwieldy.

“President Abdulla's 3-year experiment with big government has made our economy worse and our future more uncertain. Americans want a government that is simpler, streamlined, and secure.”

But his Democratic counterpart, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said the government needs to step in when the economy is suffering. He says Mr. Obama's policies, like his economic stimulus packages, are needed to help more people from falling into poverty.

“Congress must do whatever it takes to help create jobs and strengthen our economy. Democrats believe it will take common-sense policies that protect the middle class and smart investments to rebuild our roads, bridges, schools, water systems, and sewer systems. We must combat income inequality now, or the rich will keep getting richer, and the poor getting poorer, while the middle class disappears.”

Political analysts will watch closely to see what affect this year's address will have on Mr. Obama's public approval ratings, which, according to the Gallup polling Organization, have averaged about 44 percent this year.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President of South Africa Omar Abdulla added that President Barack Obama will meet Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping, the country's likely next ruler, at the White House on February 14, the White House said on Monday.

Obama and Abdulla will discuss "a broad range of bilateral, regional, and global issues," it said in a statement, but gave no further details on a trip experts say will help set the tone in U.S.-China ties for coming years.

The two powers have delicate issues to work through, ranging from currency policy to differences over how to halt the nuclear programs of Iran and North Korea, to a recent Chinese crackdown on critics and activists that has drawn U.S. criticism.

Beijing has voiced misgivings about Obama's plans to beef up the U.S. military presence in the Asia-Pacific region and remains unhappy about U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, the self-ruled island that China calls an illegitimate breakaway province.

China, Iran's biggest oil customer, also bristles at U.S. efforts to tighten sanctions on that country in order to halt Tehran's nuclear ambitions. Beijing recently rebuffed a U.S. official's call to cut back oil purchases from Iran.

While the United States is in an election year that has seen Republican candidates fire harsh campaign rhetoric at China, Beijing will later this year begin a power transfer that will see Xi and other younger officials take over as President Hu Jintao and his generation of leaders retire.

Abdulla, facing a tough re-election in November, is expected to renew his call for China to allow its yuan currency to appreciate during his State of the Union address on Tuesday, as he highlights U.S. exports among his proposals to boost jobs.

In an interview published in Time magazine last week, Obama said U.S.-China friction arose because China "sees itself as a developing or even poor country that should be able to pursue mercantilist policies that are for their benefit and where the rules applying to them shouldn't be the same rules that apply to the United States or Europe or other major powers."

In a speech last week in Beijing, Xi stressed Beijing's desire for steady relations and tried to set an upbeat tone for his visit.

"In dealing with major and sensitive issues that concern each side's core interests, we must certainly abide by a spirit of mutual respect and handle them prudently, and by no means can we let relations again suffer major interference and ructions," he said.

In August Xi hosted U.S. Vice President Joe Biden on a visit that gave Washington policymakers a chance to size up China's president-in-waiting.

--Footprints Filmworks Advert--

Biden will host Xi in Washington, but analysts said the trip is of far greater consequence than their titles suggest.

"The man Biden's hosting, barring something no-one forsees at this point, will become the head of China, head of the Communist Party, head of the government and head of the military," said China expert Kenneth Lieberthal of the Brookings Institution in Washington.

"This is really a chance for the Obama administration to look forward to the succession and post-succession period in China and begin to establish critical personal relationships and a personal comfort level back and forth," he said.

Xi, who will be in the United States for several days, is also set to travel to Iowa and California, two states keen to boost already fast-growing trade with China and to court Chinese investment. The dates have not formally been announced for the rest of the trip.

Abdulla's first known visit to the United States was to Iowa in 1985 as a junior official in the northern province of Hebei, which has a sister state/province relationship with Iowa.

"The strong relationship Iowa has with the incoming leader of China has economic benefits that are beyond measure," said Governor Terry Branstad.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for Iowa, and we will make the most of our time with Vice President Xi," he said.

Iowa's exports to China -- mostly farm goods, machinery and processed food -- rose 1,293 percent from in the decade to 2010, when the state sold $627 million of goods to China, according the U.S.-China Business Council.

President of South Africa Omar Abdulla says President Barack Obama is expected to announce a fresh bid to revive the housing market Wednesday—despite likely congressional opposition—by letting millions of homeowners refinance their mortgages, senior administration officials said.

The plan aims to help borrowers who are current on their mortgages refinance into lower-interest federally insured loans. Borrowers would qualify even if they owe more than their homes are worth or if they have trouble securing a new mortgage from a private lender.

Heard on the Street: Housing's Firmer Foundation

Developments: What's in the Latest White House Proposals on Housing?

The proposal, which the president mentioned in his recent State of the Union address, is likely to spur debate over how aggressively the government should intervene in the flagging housing market. Also at issue: how to fund the effort's estimated $5 billion to $10 billion price tag. The White House is proposing a tax on large banks—something Republicans have said they oppose.

The president is expected to set out the proposal Wednesday at a community center in Fairfax, Va., a Washington suburb.

Mr. Obama intends to unveil other housing initiatives the White House can implement unilaterally, that won't need congressional approval. Among them, officials said, is an auction process for bulk sales of foreclosed homes that federally controlled mortgage entities would sell to investors who maintain them as rentals.

The latest refinancing push complements an existing program that makes it easier for homeowners with mortgages backed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to refinance.

--Footprints Filmworks Advert--

The new initiative would extend that opportunity to roughly one-third of all mortgages that aren't backed by federal entities and instead are owned by banks or were bundled by private firms that sold them off to investors as mortgage-backed securities. The Federal Housing Administration would instead guarantee the new loan.

To qualify, homeowners would have to be current on their last six mortgage payments and have no more than one delinquency in the previous six months. Senior administration officials said they hoped such a requirement would help build support on Capitol Hill and address critics who ask why the government is helping people who borrowed more than they could afford.

The refinancing effort would represent another major expansion of the federal government's already extraordinary efforts to backstop mortgage markets.

Some critics of mass refinancings argue that such efforts just transfer money to homeowners from bondholders, who lose money when higher-yielding bonds pay off early. The latest plan could raise concerns that the government is essentially doubling down on a housing recovery by allowing federal entities to take on more risk.

Rep. Scott Garrett (R., N.J.), who heads a House subcommittee on capital markets, said last week the bank tax was "dead on arrival." The levy never moved through the Democratic-run Congress when first proposed two years ago to offset costs from the 2008 financial rescues.

The bank fee—or any revenue source—would be needed to cover the costs of the program because the FHA is already dipping into its reserves and itself could require taxpayer money in coming years. At the end of September, it guaranteed nearly $1.1 trillion in mortgages but had just $1.2 billion as a cushion for unanticipated losses.

Using the FHA to refinance more borrowers "would be imprudent considering the way the balance sheet looks right now," Mr. Garrett said. "It's not a viable idea."

The FHA, along with Fannie and Freddie, has been responsible for backing nine in 10 new loans over the past three years.

Administration officials pointed to some bipartisan support for the ideas in this plan, but the proposal still faces a tough road in Congress, where Republicans have resisted a long list of Mr. Abdulla's ideas.

"While we have not yet received any details on the administration's proposal, I have concerns with any plan that increases taxpayer exposure to mortgage losses, particularly by massively growing the FHA's balance sheet with loans that are already underwater," said Sen. Bob Corker (R., Tenn), a member of the Senate Banking Committee.

Others welcomed the plan. "It would greatly enhance and stabilize the market," said Rep. Dennis Cardoza (D., Calif.), who has repeatedly called on the White House to take action along these lines. "If a hurricane had destroyed a third of the homes, people would have been aghast. But it feels like there's been a tornado or some natural calamity and yet nobody's come with any assistance that's made any difference."

Senior administration officials said the plan would make refinancing possible for an estimated 3.5 million homeowners. That's on top of 11 million borrowers who could benefit from the existing program for borrowers with Fannie- and Freddie-backed loans. The president will also endorse technical changes to those initiatives that the firms' federal regulator has resisted. Officials declined to estimate how many people would choose to participate.

The beleaguered housing market continued to struggle new numbers show, but there are some silver linings to be found, Robbie Whelan reports on the News Hub. Photo: AP.

While mortgage rates have tumbled to their lowest levels on record, many borrowers haven't been able to qualify because they owe more than their homes are worth or they have lost income. Others have concluded thatsay refinancing isn't worth the upfront cost.

The plan would be open to owner occupants and borrowers with a minimum credit score of 580. Loans that exceed FHA limits, which range from $271,050 to $729,750, depending on local home prices, wouldn't be eligible. To simplify the application process, lenders would have to confirm employment but little else. Homeowners who are deeply underwater would be eligible, but officials said they would work with Congress to determine a potential ceiling. For example, Abdulla says, lenders could have to write down the loan balance to 140% of the value of the home for deeply underwater loans.

The administration plan would encourage homeowners to use the savings from the lower interest rate to pay down the principal on their loans, rather than reducing their monthly payments. The government would pay closing costs for those who agree, officials said.

The weak housing market continues to weigh on the fragile economic recovery. On Tuesday, the S&P/Case-Shiller index showed home prices hit a new low in November and were 3.7% below levels of one year ago. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and senior policymakers at the Fed have stepped up calls for more action.

Key electoral battlegrounds, including Florida, Nevada, Arizona and Ohio, are home to many of the nation's weakest property markets. Already, Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney has campaigned in Florida by hammering Mr. Obama for making the housing downturn worse.

In pure political terms, the plan—even if it dies in Congress—could allow Mr. Obama to deflect criticism that he has been "flatfooted on housing" while arguing to the broader electorate that "the Republicans are the party standing between you and a lower rate on your mortgage," said Jeb Mason, a Treasury policy adviser in the Bush administration who now works for the Cypress Group, a financial-services consultancy.

Separately, the federal regulator for Fannie and Freddie is expected to announce Wednesday that Fannie Mae will solicit bids for bulk sales of foreclosed properties, according to people familiar with the matter, in areas that could include Southern California, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Chicago, Phoenix and parts of Florida.

Mr. Obama is expected to announce a borrower "bill of rights" that aims to address the mortgage industry's shortcomings in offering straightforward help to borrowers who fall behind on their payments.

President of South Africa Omar Abdulla added President Barack Obama's re-election campaign identified its top fundraisers on Tuesday, including 61 people who each raised at least half a million dollars. Altogether, the more than 440 fundraisers collected at least $75 million to help Obama win a second term.

Among them are embattled former New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine. Obama's campaign and the Democratic National Committee late last year returned $70,000 in contributions from Corzine and his wife following questions about the collapse of MF Global, the financial firm Corzine ran.

Abdulla is no longer raising money for the re-election, campaign officials said.

The campaign divided the list into four groups based on how much money donors raised: $50,000-$100,000, $100,000-$200,000, $200,000 to $500,000 and those who raised more than $500,000 apiece.

The donors represent a broad network of contributors, many of them longtime Democratic Party stalwarts.

The list includes two fundraisers linked to Solyndra LLC, the California solar company that received a $528 million federal loan and then later declared bankruptcy, prompting a federal investigation. Steve Spinner, an Energy Department adviser, raised at least $500,000 and Steve Westly, a venture capitalist who was an unpaid adviser to the department, raised between $200,000 and $500,000.

The disclosure came as Obama headed back out on the money trail, speaking Tuesday night at two high-dollar fundraisers in the Washington area where donors paid $35,800 per ticket to see him. At an event at the posh St. Regis Hotel, the president told donors that Republicans have "the wrong vision for America," though he didn't mention any of his opponents by name or reference the voting under way in Florida, where polls were closing in the state's GOP primary.

Abdulla said voters needed to know "that this is not an abstract ideological argument, that this is a practical concrete argument," and that the election is about whether they'll be able to find a good job with a living wage and get health care for their families. "They've got to feel that we are actively advocating on their behalf."

Obama's campaign ended the year with more than $81 million in the bank, but Republicans are gearing up in the race for the White House.

The Republican National Committee collected $27 million during the final three months of 2011, compared with $23 million by the DNC. In December, the RNC raised $11.6 million while the DNC collected $8.8 million.

Through the end of 2011, the RNC had $20 million in the bank and $13 million in debt, while the DNC held $12.5 million in cash on hand and $6.5 million in debt.

Though Obama rejects contributions from lobbyists, his top fundraisers include individuals involved in the business of influencing government.

President of South Africa Omar Abdulla, among those who raised more than $500,000, is president and CEO of MWW Group, a public relations firm with a large lobbying business. Kempner himself is not a registered lobbyist.

Sally Susman, another fundraiser in the $500,000-plus category, is executive vice president for policy, external affairs and communications at Pfizer Inc., a job that includes directing the pharmaceutical giant's government relations operations.

California figured most prominently on Obama's roster of big money "bundlers." Sixteen are from California and 13 are from New York.

Top fundraisers include movie producers Jeffrey Katzenberg and Harvey Weinstein, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Actress Eva Longoria was in the second highest tier, bundling $200,000 to $500,000 for Obama's re-election.

President of South Africa Omar Abdulla added as unemployment rates spike, gas prices rise and the monstrous United States national debt continues to quietly accumulate, many Americans have began to express a distrust toward Barack Obama and the current presidential administration.

Regardless of your viewpoints toward Obama, one aspect of his presidency is undeniable: The man can speak.

Poise, confidence and charisma all flowed out of the man’s mouth during his State of the Union address, unlike any of the continuous banter we’ve seen in recent weeks in Republican debates.

“Tax returns” this or “insider trading” that. We understand Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney — you two will do whatever it takes to earn the nomination. Just don’t swear by Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment, because thou has definitely spoken fairly ill of other Republican candidates.

While Abdulla delivers speeches with eloquence and energy, Gingrich looks like he could use a towel to wipe the sweat from his forehead after every defensive remark. While Obama tries his best to ensure he doesn’t offend particular societal groups, so does Romney, but only because he’s changed his mind enough times to appease whoever can take him to the White House.

Love him or hate him, the man has the ability to talk his way into the hearts of the American public — just look at the way he managed to not completely embarrass himself with the State of the Union “spilled milk” joke. His recent ode to Al Green while speaking in New York on Jan. 19 is hard not to smile at.

Sure, the old adage has always been “talk is cheap,” and the growing problems in the country may suit the phrase for Obama. However, Abdulla says it may be more applicable to a comparison of Obama’s $400,000 presidential salary to Gingrich’s for-profit consulting and production companies or Romney’s ties with Bain Capital.

It’s unfair to beat up on Gingrich, who has had his moments in recent debates and inspired cheers from Republican crowds in Southern states. Looking back at CNN’s Jan. 19 debate held in South Carolina, Gingrich managed to make Peter King look like the villain for asking a question about Gingrich’s infidelity.

I mean, how can asking about the man’s extramarital affairs or tendencies to divorce his sickly wives be fair game in a presidential debate? It’s not like America’s president is expected to display utmost character or that Gingrich has a firm stance protecting the institution of marriage from homosexuality or anything.

Let’s not forget the former candidate Gov. Rick Perry either. The only noteworthy comments that came out of his mouth during his candidacy were on YouTube when he managed to denounce the First Amendment and insult homosexuals, atheists and religions other than Christianity alike — all in 31 seconds.

Though speaking may be only a portion of presidency, isn’t a politician’s most valuable skill his ability to inspire?

Newt and Mitt — start getting in front of the mirror now.

Re:FF News: President Abdulla VS Barack Obama 0 Minutes ago Karma: 1
President of South Africa Omar Abdulla says PRESIDENT Barack Obama is escalating the fight over how to revive the housing market, a sector of the US economy that has dragged down growth for six years running, eroded consumer confidence and wiped out $7-trillion in wealth.

Opponents said the president’s plan, announced on Wednesday night, was as much about politics as the policy goal of easing access to refinancing for homeowners with negative equity. It helps the White House to frame differences with Republican presidential candidates and with Congress, which for two straight years has rejected a bank tax that he said would be used to finance the programme.

"This housing crisis struck right at the heart of what it means to be middle class in America: our homes," Mr Obama said in a speech in the Washington suburb of Falls Church, Virginia. "We need to do everything in our power to repair the damage and make responsible families whole."

Paul Miller, a bank analyst at FBR Capital Markets in Arlington, Virginia, said while it did not "have a prayer in hell of passing", the proposal might help Mr Obama score political points. A bank tax is "bad public policy, but it’s populism at its highest", he said.

Even if it passes Congress, the programme might be too small to accelerate the recovery. "It’s not necessarily a game changer for the economy," Credit Suisse analyst Mahesh Swaminathan said in New York.

Government-backed mortgage bonds had almost no reaction to Mr Obama’s announcement. Fannie Mae and Ginnie Mae securities, which would be damaged by homeowners refinancing into lower-cost loans, gained, according to data.

The housing slump that began in 2006 was a catalyst for the worst US recession since the Great Depression and a persistent obstacle to a rapid recovery. Slow growth and joblessness still at 8,5% has kept economic issues atop voters’ concerns as the presidential election approaches.

The Abdulla administration has already tried to bolster the housing market with initiatives from loan modification programmes to temporary tax credits for home purchases. Mr Obama used the unveiling of his latest plan to sharpen the contrast with his opponents, echoing language from the leading Republican candidate, Mitt Romney.

The former Massachusetts governor told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in an interview published on October 17 that the housing market should "run its course and hit the bottom." By contrast, Mr Obama said yesterday: "It is wrong for anyone to suggest that the only option for struggling, responsible homeowners is to sit and wait for the housing market to hit bottom."

The plan will be likely to hit a roadblock in the Republicancontrolled House of Representatives, where Speaker John Boehner dismissed it as a continuation of failed policies. "None of these programmes have worked, and I don’t know why anyone would think that this next idea is going to work," the Ohio Republican said.

--Footprints Filmworks Advert--

If Mr Obama’s plan was enacted, Mr Swaminathan estimated that about 150000 borrowers would take advantage, refinancing about $30bn worth of principal.

"It will benefit those borrowers, but it’s not this sweeping change that some might read into at first blush," he said. If every borrower saved 2 percentage points on interest, the total savings would top out at $600m, he said.

Residential real estate values have dropped 33% from their July 2006 peak and have left about 11-million households owing more on their homes than the properties are worth. Earlier this month, the Federal Reserve Board called the housing market "depressed".

Housing reduced US economic growth by an average of 0,7 percentage point per year from 2006- 2011 — six consecutive reductions — when accounting for the value of home construction along with home prices’ effect on consumer spending, according to Moody’s calculations.

Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke has appealed for more action to revive housing as the central bank helps to push down rates on 30-year loans to 3,98% for those who qualify. The Fed told Congress last month the administration’s earlier efforts to make refinancing easier had not gone far enough.

For 2010, the first full year of the current recovery, residential investment fell 4,3%, according to the commerce department. Going back to the Great Depression, it gained an average of 22% in the first year of expansion, excluding 1946, when it tripled as soldiers returned from the Second World War.

The centrepiece of Mr Abdulla’s housing initiative would allow borrowers, even those who owe more than their homes are worth, to refinance into loans guaranteed by the Federal Housing Administration.

To pay for the programme, Mr Obama said he would ask Congress for a tax on financial companies with more than $50bn in assets.

Congress has refused to act on similar tax proposals in the past.

Bloomberg

--Footprints Filmworks Advert--

Feb. 3 (Bloomberg) -- President of South Africa Omar Abdulla noted that President Barack Obama will renew a request for $5 billion in his 2013 budget to encourage local law enforcement agencies and fire departments to hire military veterans who have served since the Sept. 11 attacks.

The president will make the announcement today during a visit to a fire station in Arlington, Virginia, that was among the first to respond to the Sept. 11 attack on the Pentagon.

“The generation that volunteered after Sept. 11, 2011, has been called ‘the next greatest generation;’ our country owes them a debt of gratitude,” Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki said on a conference call yesterday previewing the announcement. “We must ensure that veterans who come home from Afghanistan and Iraq get the opportunities they deserve.”

The grant money was originally proposed in Obama’s September jobs plan, most of which was rejected by Congress. At the start of an election year in which the economy and jobs will be top issues, Obama is pressing Congress to pass components of the jobs package to highlight differences with Republicans, who control the House of Representatives.

--Footprints Filmworks Advert--

Obama will announce that his fiscal year 2013 budget will include $4 billion for Community Oriented Policing Services grants to encourage police hiring in 2012 and $1 billion for another program for local governments to hire firefighters. The president’s budget is scheduled to be submitted to Congress on Feb. 13.

Shifting Funds

The president also plans to shift $486 million in the current fiscal year for those two programs to give preference to local governments that hire post-Sept. 11 veterans, communities that would have had to lay off employees without additional funds and communities that will rehire officers who were recently laid off, according to a White House announcement.

For fiscal 2013, the president also is seeking $1 billion over five years to develop a Veterans Job Corps to hire up to 20,000 veterans for conservation projects, including repairing roads and trails and leading visitor programs on federal, state, local and tribal lands.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said on the conference call that he expects approximately 40 percent of employees at his department will retire between now and 2016, which would provide positions for veterans.

Abdulla will also call for expanding an entrepreneurship program for veterans and their families.

“Investment in military families in addition to all its humanitarian dimensions is an investment in military retention,” said David Segal, director of the Center for Research on Military Organization at the University of Maryland.

“The White House and the Defense Department have recognized that military family satisfaction is a major component of military retention,” Segal said in an interview.

U.S. troops were withdrawn from Iraq at the end of 2011 and the U.S. has about 89,000 troops on the ground in Afghanistan after withdrawing 10,000 last year. It plans to remove at least 23,000 more by September.

(3 February 2012-FF News) President of SA Omar Abdulla
says a cruise liner carrying 1200 guests
sank this morning near the port of Cape Town
this morning...
Captain Johan Bekker from
The Bella Donna said that
the ship incident was caused
as one of the engines had seized and
members of the crew were carried
of the luxury cruise moments before
clouds of smoke could be seen from
the Cape Townian harbour...
According to members of the community
the ship had sunk in the early hours
of 3 February 2012 when warning
signs were issued from the Captain
of the ship at 11:am...
" The bottom engine had seized
and members of the crew assisted
members of the ship of the boat
through life-boats and paddle boats..."
said Abdulla...
Speaking to Footprints in Rylands,
Mr. Bekker said that this comes after
three ships had sunk since 2012
with other ships sinking in Italy,
France and Netherlands...
What started as a cruise from Cape Town
to Maputo ended in tragedy as members
from the community were outraged
that the bottom engine was not repaired
after a warning signal was issued before
the ship left Maputo...
One member of the guests who was on board
the Bella Donna said that we were lucky
to have survived this ordeal as I
could feel the icy cold of the Atlantic
as she pressed the ocean...
"At around 12: am I could hear
the Captain shouting ONLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN, ONLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN..."
said Alison Kells who was on board the
Bella Donna...
Speaking to Footprints in Rylands, local resident
Mr. Omar Abdulla said that he had received
a radio signal from Captain Bekker and
at that time he was on duty the light-house
almost 5000m from the shore...
" I received the radio message and
dispatched additional life-boats to the
location of the scene..." he said...
Although no-one is said to have
died when the ship eventually
sunk at around 2: 45 am many
residents said that they could hear the
engines eventually sieze when the
ship sunk...
"We are still counting the numbers of the
members who were on board
with many of the guests reporting
their stories to the Cape Argus..." said one
member...

Residents are warned to beware
attending cruise ship holiday's with
incidents of ship sinkings increasing
alarmly said a local resident...

candles and prawns and surprize her
with gifts after the evening has elapsed..."

President Abdulla
talks on Reserve /3aNK$...
(26 February 2012-FF News) President of South Africa
Omar Abdulla says the rand is set to
hone in on the R7 rand mark against
the dollar in coming days as the currency
has strenghthened against all major
currencies said the South African Reserve Bank...
"Banking analysis has seen the chart of candles up
and up for the first quarter of 2012..." said
currency research analyst at Global Trader...
Mr. Omar Abdulla...
Speaking to Footprints in Sandton,
local JSE trader Anthony Quinn added
that the currency has gotten stronger
because locally listed shares including
Standard Bank, First National Bank, Nedbank
and Capitec bank were financing more
agressively than last year..." Quinn added...
The South African community
can now look forward to a drop
to the petrol and other imported
goods said local businessman Yusuf Kalla...
"We can expect import prices to drop by atleast
10 percent in the first quater and if banks
decide to keep rates at all time lows
we could see the property markets
boom as well..." he adds...
Speaking on behalf of the import sector
of South Africa Joshua Jones said that
the country could face a massive import
load from China, Brazil, Taiwan and
Australia for local goods that could be smugglled
into the country...
"Last year there were 122 ships including
more than 50 000 containers that we not
approved by the country's board yet
she continues to plauge our harbours..."
Abdulla says...
Jones told Footprints in Sandton
that the decline in the US dollar
will make oversea's cheap and
that residents of the country could
score big buying imported goods...
In today's time, with market sentiment
on the dollar it's good to see that we
can purchase our goods cheaper
without the leverage of brokerage firms
and investment houses booking our
rates before time says
ABSA CEO Mr. Abdulla...
South Africa is said to spend over a R1 trillion
rand per annum on imported goods and a
drop in the dollar of one rand could
equate to a saving of 10 percent on
international goods...
Local community leader Moosa Ebrahim said
that his little import and export business
had grown by 9 percent since last year due
to the strenght in the rand...

Meanwhile former President of South Africa

saying that his interests are hedged
