Ocean Basket

Ocean Basket is South Africa's favourite chain of seafood restaurants. There's one near you, where you will find friendly people, a home-from-home feeling, and great value for your hardearned bucks. Some Ocean Baskets have a fresh-fish deli too, and you can order to eat in or takeaway, whatever grabs you.

One thing's for sure. You will find only the freshest seafood at Ocean Basket. Plus, some nice wines to make a great meal even greater. Ocean Basket is for all da family, cos children love good seafood as much as you do. Come on in and have a whale of a time!

Speaking to Footprints in Rylands, Managing Director for Ocean Basket South Africa Johan Freedman says that the key to success in a n y enterprise is 'fishing with the right friends.'

"I got into fishing before I started my seafood chain. The quality of the brand is of utmost importance. In our fifteen years in South Africa we have always prided ourselves to providing 'an awesome meal,' to our friends and family who visit our restuarants." he said.

History
Ocean Basket has been around for years ... since brothers Fats and George Lazarides hooked up with George Nichas back in 1995, in Pretoria. Da brothers, being of Mediterranean descent and also being so far from da coast, often dreamed of seafood. And since George Nichas had boatloads of knowhow selling fresh seafood, da three schemed how to start a seafood restaurant where people could afford a simple but real good meal.

We wanted to make people aware of good seafood, Fats says. We wanted to create a simple place where people could enjoy a great meal and great value. A homely place where they'd get together with friends and feel like they're part of our family.

Footprints in Rylands and Ocean Basket South Africa is g i v i n g away ten 'prince prawns specials,' to the first 10 people who bring this ADVERT along to our restuarant.

Whirlwinds 'sway oceanic borders.'

4 February 2011

by Sussanah De Silva

A recent storm has been brewing on the shore lines of Overport this morning. This comes after heavy rains for the last five days. This has caused great concern to residents living on the shore lines of the country. In a report released yesterday the local weather service said that two cyclone thunderstorms were brewing on the eastern coast of Natal.

The cyclone nickamed 'Mary,' has been on the coastlines of the country for the last two hours and reports released said that the storm could destroy homes living close to the city shoreline. The local weather bureau warned residents to seek shelter during the February monsoon season. According to local resident Hajra Suliman she says that the recent rains in the country had flooded her home almost six months ago.

"South African's should be aware of the recent change in weather in the last six months. Although the countries farmers have appreciated the recent rains, many businesses were destroyed by the recent floods." she said.

In a quick call to Footprints in Overport Hajra says that she was lucky that the local community was with her when the storms distrupted her home.

"The storms caused many of the residents to be home-less. We were lucky to seek aid from the local community. Now with the recent storm brewing on the shorelines of the country makes me fearful that me and my family will have to seek shelter once again. " she said.

Many residents claim that although the recent rains in the country was good for country folks many have said that the cyclones could destroy up-to -5000 businesses operating in Durban.

In a statement to the media the local weather bureau said that the storm could pass over the weekend.

Is Julius Malema ready for his 'Presidential Dreams.'??

9 February 2011

by Daddy Tshabala

ANC Youth League president Julius Malema is in for 'guts and gawl,' when he tackles the South African presidency in 2012. Many community leaders in South Africa and internationally say that the future president of our country will have to face public polls before 'achieving the presidential trophy.' In a statement last Friday Malema says that he will partner with sources who relate to his 'future ideas of the country.'

Although many residents from the community of South Africa have been watching the 'vengeful Malema,' many say that Malema will stick to the standards of past presidents including Nelson Mandela, F W De Klerk, Thabo Mbeki and South Africa's current President Jacob Zuma. Speaking to Footprints in South Africa Malema says that he had appreciated the work done by community leaders in provinces Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Limpopo and Gauteng.

"The ANC has worked on the election campaign as aggressively as we possibly can. With the support of other parties we could stem local growth from within the country's borders." he said.

Local community leader Omar Abdulla who runs for Minister of Finance in coming months says that the country will support personalities that have 'insight, drive, passion and knowledge,' when dealing with high-profile members of parliament.

In an e-mail received by Malema, Abdulla says that Malema had agreed to meeting with him if certain 'uBuntu ideas,' were maintained.

"We can be as smart and hunky as we want on television and yet certain leaders do not correspond with certain ideas I have set out in previous years." Malema says.

Although the country hosts 447 members of parliament many fans have already started discussing 'new trends,' both in the local and international stock markets.

"The stock market of South Africa is one-tenth the size of major stock exchanges internationally. If we use the leverage and 'know-how,' of leaders of yesterday we could reap the rewards for ordinary citizens who bet on us." Abdulla said.

Meanwhile local parties are gearing for what could be the biggest turnout for the elections in 2012. Stats SA reported that the country could face up-to 30 million voters in 2012.

President of South Africa Jacob Zuma who catches up on Abdulla's weekly show said that he will speak to the businessman when he travels to the Union Buildings on Tuesday.

I KNEW I LOVED YOU

by Zakiyyah Kolia

14 February 2011

There is this guy that I have liked for the last two years and I somehow feel bottled up because I don't know how to express my emotions to him. I started liking him and I don't know if he has the same feelings for me. I have been wanting to ask him on a date but I always get stopped by my family and my personal ambitions.

'I knew I loved you,' before I actually got to know you. I have been reading about Footprints for quite some time now and decided to take the courage and write this letter to him. He knows who I am although I won't mention his name because he would get upset if I write his name on this websites and newspapers. I started liking Mr. X long before he became this 'high-flying,' executive. I just want to say that no-matter what he does or says I will always love him even if he does not return my love. I have decided to give him an option to marry me if he wants. I will wait for an sms, an e-mail, a letter or some form of communication for him to confirm my love to him.

I am not from Laudium or any wealthy family, I am just a decent woman seeking the right partner. I have prayed to the Almighty and all I want now is him. So baby, if you are reading this story know that I love you today, tomorrow and forever.

You know who you are and please let's work together as how we originally planned when we were last year. You know everything about me, now it's time to make your move with me baby.

Since it is the month of Valentines Day, I thought I'd post this message on Footprints.!

Cricket World Cup 2011

19 February 2011

by Faaiza Mukadam

The ICC cricket world cup kicks off today with estimated audiences exceeding one billion internationally. The ICC said in a statement this morning that the opening ceremony was a 'success,' on 17 February 2011. The opening match between the two hosts India and Bangladesh is to be held in Dhaka where 'the little maestro,' Sachin Tendulkar is expected to score in 'classic style.'

Although the ICC cricket world cup was originally set-out to be played in Pakistan, the country has been 'barred,' from ICC dealings for the next ten years due to terrorism and match-fixing. Speaking to Footprints in South Africa local commentator Wasim Akram says that India will play a vital role in leading the match between Bangladesh.

"Cricket is the buzz word here in Pakistan and we should support our Indian hosts when showcasing their talents to the world." he said.

Other leading members from the ICC including Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh, Shane Warne, Jonty Rhodes and Kapil Dev say that the World Cup is a celebration of cricket and the format of the game.

In a conversation with Footprints in South Africa via Skype local cricket captain Graeme Smith says that he was ready to win the cup this time round after semi-final losses in the last two world cups.

"It's my last season as captain of South Africa and I choose to leave the stadium with my team and the world cup in my hands." he said.

Fans throughout the world are welcomed to book their seats for the live broadcast that takes place in thirteen stadiums in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

South Africa, England, Australia and India are the expected 'winners,' of the World Cup in 2011.

The South African squad is said to be backed up Hashim Amla, Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis and Morne Morkal.

Stock Broker faces charges of churning.

by Akber Majoti

3 February 2011

A local stock broker Ahmed Seedat faces charges of churning from a local businessman Dr. Imraan Kalla. According to the investor Dr. Imraan Kalla he invested a sum of R8 million rand in the trust of Mr. Ahmed Seedat. The businessman claims that his account was 'churned,' with the local stock exchange and lost his entire investment with Seedat. This comes after speculation that Seedat had churned the doctors account and managed to loose the entire investment.

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange issued a report to Dr. Imraan Kalla claiming that he had authorized the investment into certain shares that were trading on the local stock market. According to the report received by Footprints in Sandton the businessman claims that he had invested the amount in December 2009 and the account balance of the investment reached a staggering R52 million rand whereby the stock broker told the investor to withdraw his funds and maintain the R8 million rand investment.

Ahmed who spoke exclusively to Footprints in Sandton said that he had maintained his mandate set-out by the investor, in this scenario Dr. Imraan Kalla. When things went sour for the businessman and the investor the investor decided to stop all positions at an account balance of R14 million rand. This R14 million rand remained in the account holders name when another position was taken in the stock market whereby the stock broker warned the investor of the potential loss of the trade. When the investor received a call on his mobile from the exchange that he required a further two million rand to hold the current position the investor was furious with Seedat.

"This man trades like a wild-cowboy. Sure enough we were making money at one stage and I should of withdrawn my initial capital plus 50 percent profit and re-invest into the market. I am grateful that my entire family did not invest with this stock broker." he said.

In what seems to be a race for time and knowledge the businessman told Footprints in Sandton that he is an investor in the local market but was stemmed by 'fear and greed.'

"I have been trading the stock market since the 1990's and not once did I see a move as quick and fast-paced as last weeks move in the market." he said.

The businessman is said to have invested a sum of R4 million rand with another stock broker at the local exchange.

President Abdulla speaks about
'OLD AGE...'
(16 February 2012-FF News) President of South Africa
Omar Abdulla says Ai Kasumi turns 129 today
and is officially 'the oldest man,' in the world
according to Reuters...
Ai Kasumi was born to father Haruka Kasumi
and mother Hitomi Kasumi one hundred
and twenty nine years ago in what was
now known as ancient Japan...

In a telegraph letter to
Footprints in South Africa, Ai says
that the secret to his long life is two
hours love-making per day when he
was younger-all to say that has stopped
when he turned 93, he jokes...

Abdulla adds by saying that regular
excercise, constant motivation
and gardening are some of the secrets he has to offer...
Ai Kasumi has currently four children, seventeen
grandchildren and nine great grandchildren...

"We should all have dreams for our father's
and mothers to reach these ages..." he said...
Ai Kasumi will be celebrating his birthday with
his family in Hiroshima today and says
that he remembers days when the United States
bombed Japan...

"I was in my fifties in the 1940's and can remember
the blood shed as thou it were yesterday..." he says...
Footprints Filmworks and the rest of South Africa
wish Mr. Ai Kasumi 'a happy birthday,' for today,
and hopefully our parents and grandparents
can follow in Abdulla's footprints...

President Abdulla on WAL*MART...

(16 February 2012-FF News) P R E S I D E N T of
South Africa Omar Abdulla
says Wal-Mart is again in the headlines
and this time it's for a good reason...
Wal-Mart the world's biggest and largest retailer
is set to invest R832 billion rand over the
next twenty years according to Vice President
of South Africa Mr. Kgalema Motlanthe...
Motlanthe says that he had long conversations
with the retail giant and after almost two
years of talks-the first Wal-Mart store
will be opened officially in June 2012...

Wal-Mart which will operate in South Africa
will become the biggest brand in South Africa
over-taking Shoprite and Pick and Pay...
According to Bloomberg the retail giant
has signed lease agreements with Massmart
which will merge to form Wal-Mart South Africa...
In saying so, the company Massmart will be
owned by Wal-Mart and takeover
operations for name change are
already underway...

Pick and Pay spokesperson President Abdulla
says that Pick and Pay will not loose consumers
and consumers tend to follow a brand
name that sells...

"Wal-Mart has been making a ho-ha
the last two years and till today not a
cent has been invested in South Africa,
and we are working with the competition
tribunal to reject Wal-Mart's bid for
South African soil..." Abdulla said...
When Footprints in South Africa spoke
to members of the community there
was a mixed reaction with some saying
that Wal-Mart will introduce American brands to
South Africa, whilst others say that the
retail giant will not touch the iceberg
because other retail giants have already
built a brand name in the country....
That being said, Wal-Mart has pledged R433 million
rand for the donation and sponsorship of
school and university graduates
in the next five years to salavate
the appetities of the competion tribunal...
We shall wait and see...

due to un-foreseen circumstances...

Although many questions were asked
during the wedding why the groom had
decided to change his mind, words were
spread around the table that the groom
had promised a Cape Townian woman
his heart last month, and somehow miraculously
will marry her next month...

"This is all too sudden for me,
and he has not even called me personally
to tell me that it's over-I have to hear it
from his mother..." Abdulla said...

The bride's family is said to have spent
over R250 000-00 on the wedding and
the groom's father has promised
that the amount of R250 000-00
will be paid by himself because
his son decided to change his mind...
"Many stories were said that my son fell in love
with another woman, but the truth is that
we received some bad talk about the bride's family
which destroyed her reputation with us
immediatly...."said the groom's father
Mr. Yaseen Aboobaker...
Footprints in Durban who attended the wedding
was forced to leave the wedding without
seeing the 'embrace of love...'
Mr. Abdulla says non, the, less, leftover
food of the seven course meal was shared
with the street dwellers of Natal...

to experiment with new forms of transport
to amaze South African's transport is said to be
on the up-tone as the government plans to

Cereal and later died after feeding the toddler...

Andrew Kirsten, the father of little Amy Kirsten
says that he purchased the porridge earlier in

The woman who chooses to remain anonymous
for fear of her life says that she had met
Mr. X on an online dating network...

.President Abdulla talks
about DUREX...
(26 February 2012-FF News) President of South Africa
Omar Abdulla says once again Morningside
and their teenagers are in the news with
pregnancy being a topic of discussion
between a 19 yr teenager who ended up
pregnant after a night of passion with her Romeo...

They spent the Valentines Day on the
14 February on a 'dream-date,' coupled
with pizza and oceanic waves and later
what normally is a passionate affair of love-making
turned into that Miss. Jessica Napier being
pregnanted by her boyfriend whom she
knows for the l a s t three years...

Speaking to Footprints in Durban,
local mother to be Miss. Jessica Napier
says that they normally use Durex
Condoms when 'they-do-it,' and this
time-it did not work...Today, the
26 February 2012 the doctor called
me-saying that I am pregnant...
This is shocking to myself,
my family and my friends as I am
still studying Architecture at the
University of Westville she says...
The father 28 yr old Albert Van Wyk
said that his parents knew that he was
sexually active with the woman whilst
the girl's parents say that they had
heard of Albert and sometimes
would see him pop round the house...
"We had no idea that she was doing things,
and our religion forbids such heinous
acts because we are staunch Jews..."
said the mother of Miss Jessica...
Meanwhile, Abdulla says,
the parents have laid a large
against Durex South Africa claiming
that the condom wrapper was dated to
expire in 2013 and the brand was not
100 percent effective...
Managing Director for Durex South Africa
Asnath Malomi said that the wrapper
has warnings on the wrapper
although condoms prevent
HIV infection and pregnancies it is not 100 percent...

President Abdulla 'attends,'
Eagles and Angels
Dinner...
(26 February 2012-FF News) President of South Africa
Omar Abdulla says an annual Eagles and Angels
dinner today takes place at the Meyertown
Golf course where hundreds of policemen
and military men who died in battle related
to 'protecting and preserving,' the nation's
National Guard honored members of the
local Military Council of South Africa...

The Legend goes that a man who
dies in battle is called an eagle whilst
the family he leaves behind are his angels...
According to South Africa Daily Eagles and Angels
is a method adopted from The United States
aimed at celebrating the people who
fought for our country...

Speaking to Footprints in Krugersdorp,
local community leader Felix Nkosi
says that he lost his father in 2008,
when his father was asked by the
Military of South Africa to assist the war in Congo...

"Today's celebration dinner is to
remember the people who fought
for our country and who died as
watchdogs for South Africa..." Nkosi says...

In a speech given to members from the
community local Seigant Petrus Botha
says that the lives shed in wars that the
country fought was all in good faith and
added that a man or woman who dies
in war will be granted 'heaven,' from
the smile of God...
"In the Holy Bible it states that MAN who fights for his country and dies-all his sins are pardoned..."
Abdulla says...
Seigant Johan Kallis from Meyerstown
added that the world has come a long
way from the days daughters were buried...

"In the 1800's daughters were buried alive
because the government did not see any
use to women...Today, women have become
major driving forces of countries and if our
thinking can change over 100 years,
imagine where we would be in the
next 100 years..." said Abdulla...
The Eagles and Angels program is sponsored
by Old Mutual the national insurer of the
country and provides members who died
in combat a R200-000-00 grant
if a person has died in war or battle...

President Abdulla
'sails,'
with the community...
(3 February 2012-FF News) President of SA Omar Abdulla
says a cruise liner carrying 1200 guests
sank this morning near the port of Cape Town
this morning...
Captain Johan Bekker from
The Bella Donna said that
the ship incident was caused
as one of the engines had seized and
members of the crew were carried
of the luxury cruise moments before
clouds of smoke could be seen from
the Cape Townian harbour...
According to members of the community
the ship had sunk in the early hours
of 3 February 2012 when warning
signs were issued from the Captain
of the ship at 11:am...
" The bottom engine had seized
and members of the crew assisted
members of the ship of the boat
through life-boats and paddle boats..."
said Abdulla...
Speaking to Footprints in Rylands,
Mr. Bekker said that this comes after
three ships had sunk since 2012
with other ships sinking in Italy,
France and Netherlands...
What started as a cruise from Cape Town
to Maputo ended in tragedy as members
from the community were outraged
that the bottom engine was not repaired
after a warning signal was issued before
the ship left Maputo...
One member of the guests who was on board
the Bella Donna said that we were lucky
to have survived this ordeal as I
could feel the icy cold of the Atlantic
as she pressed the ocean...
"At around 12: am I could hear
the Captain shouting ONLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN, ONLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN..."
said Alison Kells who was on board the
Bella Donna...
Speaking to Footprints in Rylands, local resident
Mr. Omar Abdulla said that he had received
a radio signal from Captain Bekker and
at that time he was on duty the light-house
almost 5000m from the shore...
" I received the radio message and
dispatched additional life-boats to the
location of the scene..." he said...
Although no-one is said to have
died when the ship eventually
sunk at around 2: 45 am many
residents said that they could hear the
engines eventually sieze when the
ship sunk...
"We are still counting the numbers of the
members who were on board
with many of the guests reporting
their stories to the Cape Argus..." said one

President Abdulla appeals for l o a n s
to PROPERY INVESTORS...
(4 February 2012-FF News) President of SA Omar Abdulla
says a Seven Hundred and fifty million
rand only Mall is to be built at the entrance of
Laudium in coming months with
investors queueing to be part
of the rush for gold...
This comes after the Department of Land Affairs
offered the land 'for-sale,' this month for R28 million rand...
This comes after long negotiations with
members of the community and the
Department of Land Affairs...
Members of the community first offered
R16 million rand for the 14 hectare land,
and later the government offered a ridiculous price
of R28 million rand to a consortium of investors...

"The good news is that Laudium
will have one of the biggest malls
in South Africa..." said business
leader Ismail Kalla...

According to the consortium investors
work with a stokveld agreement of upto R750 million rand whereby construction of the
building is to begin as early as June 2012...
Speaking to Footprints in Laudium, local resident
Aziza Abdulla said that she was
pleased that the consortium was
being led by well-known community
leaders including Mr. Omar Abdulla, Mr. Abdul Razack Gani,
Mr. Akber Gani and Mr. Rafiq Janoo...
"We are still working with investors and bankers for the leveraging of the deal..."
Mr. Janoo said...

Local Architect Mr. Haneef Tayob said
that he was called by the consortium
for the intial drafts of the mall, with architects
being raked in from Italy and Spain...
"We would like to create a new-look for Laudium
and this provides the perfect
opportunity for our community..."
said local resident Nazeer Noordin...
According to Abdulla the expected Mall
is to take about two years to complete
with an allocated 550 shops, a school,
a university and a Virgin Active gym
"This comes after intense discussions
with government to free the land and
property developers and other members
from the community have dug deep into their
pockets to make our community
dreams a reality..." said businessman
Mr. Omar Abdulla...

Speaking on behalf of the consortium
of investors Durban investor Mr. Yacoob Mahomed
said that he was pulling in investors
into the project with investors
choosing to finance the project
60 percent through bank finance
and the rest through investors pockets...
According to the agreement
which Footprints in Laudium has, the
agreement promises a fixed 28 percent
return on investment with potentials of up
to 81 percent in the first phase of construction...

"There are four stages of the construction
process and Mr. Sayed Mia from Trade Route Mall
will be assisting the team on certain
aspects of architecture, finance, production
and business..." said Mr. Omar Abdulla...
Residents can look forward to the NEW MALL of Laudium in coming months...

President Abdulla on WAL*MART...

(16 February 2012-FF News) P R E S I D E N T of
South Africa Omar Abdulla
says Wal-Mart is again in the headlines
and this time it's for a good reason...
Wal-Mart the world's biggest and largest retailer
is set to invest R832 billion rand over the
next twenty years according to Vice President
of South Africa Mr. Kgalema Motlanthe...
Motlanthe says that he had long conversations
with the retail giant and after almost two
years of talks-the first Wal-Mart store
will be opened officially in June 2012...

Wal-Mart which will operate in South Africa
will become the biggest brand in South Africa
over-taking Shoprite and Pick and Pay...
According to Bloomberg the retail giant
has signed lease agreements with Massmart
which will merge to form Wal-Mart South Africa...
In saying so, the company Massmart will be
owned by Wal-Mart and takeover
operations for name change are
already underway...

Pick and Pay spokesperson President Abdulla
says that Pick and Pay will not loose consumers
and consumers tend to follow a brand
name that sells...

"Wal-Mart has been making a ho-ha
the last two years and till today not a
cent has been invested in South Africa,
and we are working with the competition
tribunal to reject Wal-Mart's bid for
South African soil..." Abdulla said...
When Footprints in South Africa spoke
to members of the community there
was a mixed reaction with some saying
that Wal-Mart will introduce American brands to
South Africa, whilst others say that the
retail giant will not touch the iceberg
because other retail giants have already
built a brand name in the country....
That being said, Wal-Mart has pledged R433 million
rand for the donation and sponsorship of
school and university graduates
in the next five years to salavate
the appetities of the competion tribunal...
We shall wait and see...
